Description

Plecanatide is a synthetic, minimally absorbed, 16-amino acid peptide agonist of the guanylate cyclase-C (GC-C) receptor. It is a structural analog of uroguanylin, designed to mimic its physiological activity in the gastrointestinal tract. Supplied as a lyophilized powder (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient), it is used to manufacture oral tablets for the treatment of Chronic Idiopathic Constipation (CIC) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation (IBS-C). Unlike its predecessor Linaclotide, Plecanatide is optimized to maintain activity across a broader pH range of the intestine. It is the active ingredient in the brand name drug Trulance.
